INTRODUCTION
The Northern Nishnawbe Education Council was founded in the belief that district First Nations exercise self-government authority in education through district First Nations organizations and institutions.
NNEC was incorporated in 1979 as an area Education Authority to provide secondary level education services to our First Nations students attending school away from home and to increase the number of First Nations' professionals through post secondary programs in order to advance First Nations' self government, self determination and economic self sufficiency and to assist Band Councils with local control of education, as requested.
