About the Program
Northern Nishnawbe Education Council and the Tecumseh Centre for Aboriginal Research and Education at Brock University are partners in the delivery of teacher education to 24 First Nations across the Sioux Lookout District. The Bachelor of Education Program incorporates Indigenous knowledge and land-based curriculum, and embraces a "Two Worlds" pedagogy that reflects both Anishnawbek and mainstream ways of knowing.
This program achieves two very important objectives:
- The program prepares teachers for membership with the Ontario College of Teachers.
- The program places strong emphasis on linguistic and other cultural aspects of the Anishnawbek.
This program has been accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers.
