Bachelor of Education
NNEC works in partnership with Brock University to deliver a Bachelor of Education program in Sioux Lookout that qualifies graduates to teach anywhere in Ontario in Kindergarten to Grade 6 classes.
This “Two Worlds”program places a strong emphasis on the linguistic and cultural gifts of the Anishinabek and includes indigenous knowledge and land-based curriculum. It is geared towards Aboriginal students who cannot undertake the traditional student role in a university, and helps train local people as culturally proficient and professionally competent teachers dedicated to the health and wellbeing of their communities.
The bachelor of education program is spread out over five years, with students leaving their communities for three weeks at a time to be taught in the Sioux Lookout region. Students will complete 20 credits of coursework and two credits of practicum through four courses per year; all students will complete three preparation courses in Anishinimowin, English and mathematics.
Applicants must be Grade 12 or GED graduates.
Next Intake: September 2015
