Tansi,
Over the next while, Northern Nishnawbe Education Council (NNEC) will be undergoing a series of changes that will improve the lines of communication to better service the parents and all First Nation members. The new direction of NNEC consists of full transparency beginning with the launch of our new web portal. All Chiefs and Board resolutions along with minutes highlights can be accessed starting this summer.
NNEC has developed a new program that will allow parents / guardians to stay connected with their children while attending Pelican Falls First Nations High School and Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School. It is emotionally and financially difficult on a household when a member of the family has to leave the community for school. Moving away from the close ties and family bonds can make adjusting to the new environment demanding on everyone. Our goal is to reduce the stress level for both parents and students by promoting the bond of parent / child relationship to continue using Information Technology. NNEC will make available the necessary means to make this happen. A web portal has been created that will allow each parent to see what assignments their children are working on, the progress they’re making and how they are succeeding with their education. As well, all students will have access video conferencing equipment so every student can contact their parents. The majority of First Nations have various units located throughout the community.
In closing, I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe spring. I look forward to traveling to your communities in the coming months.
