Yellow Ribbon
The second annual Suicide Awareness Walk for Life was held on May 2/07 to bring awareness to the suicide-crisis of young people. The Yellow Ribbon is a community-based program using a universal public health approach. This program empowers and educates professionals, adults and youth. The Yellow Ribbon Program was launched at all NNEC schools and Queen Elizabeth District High School in response to the suicide of five former students who died by suicide. Keynote speaker, David Parnell spoke about his past addiction to drugs and his suicide attempt and now devotes his life to warning others about the danger of methamphetamine and other drugs. Over 300 people participated in the Walk and released balloons at Queen Elizabeth High School.
